Practice & Training

IMG_1952We highly recommend booking some practice before taking part in Wargrave & Shiplake Regatta events.

The Regatta offers competitors a chance to practice using regatta boats every summer approximately three weeks before the regatta begins. There are practice stations on the Shiplake bank in the enclosure field at the bottom of Mill Lane, and on the Wargrave bank at Wargrave Boat Club.

Practice bookings open 3 weeks before the Regatta each year. Sessions can be booked via the below numbers (N.B. Phones will not be active until bookings open):

Shiplake Practice: 07795 442461

Wargrave Practice: 07795 442460

Please read the full details of practice arrangements

The Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta is always looking for people to help supervise practice sessions, so if you are interested please email:

IMG_1777Each year, WSR will host some training days in the weeks leading up to the Regatta itself. This is a perfect opportunity for complete novices to come along and learn how to skiff, dongle or punt from some of the most experienced and skilled WSR competitors around.

These are based at the Wargrave Boat Club, and there will be a shuttle ferry available to bring you across from the Shiplake side of the river.

As with the Regatta itself, the training days are built around a fun atmosphere and a have-a-go mentality. So whatever your level of skill, feel free to come down and join in.
